It was a poor family and Ozzy once said he only had one pair of pants, one shirt, and one jacket. He had to sleep in a bed with all five of his brothers and sisters, and the house in which they lived in had to plumbing or indoor bathroom.

 

At school he was often teased by Tony Iommi ( later a Black Sabbath band mate) because of his high pitched voice, little did Tony it was that voice that would lead his band Black Sabbath to fame. John got the nickname Ozzy because of his last name Osbourne. He dropped out of high school at age 15 and worked as a plumbers assistant but got bored of it so, her worked in a slaughterhouse. Ozzy soon got bored of that too, and his mother Lillian got him a job testing car horns, this is where Ozzy got his first taste of music.

 

Ozzy was dissatisfied with the low pay he got testing car horns, so he turned to a life of crime. Robbing private homes, and small clothing stores, he always got caught though wearing gloves with no finger tips, his prints were everywhere. Ozzy served six weeks in Winson Green Prison, for burglary. It was there that he tatooed O-Z-Z-Y on his knuckles, and Thanks on his palm, and smiley faces on both of his knees with a needle and a slab of granite.

 

When he got out of jail he was wondering the streets looking for something to do, he came across an old friend who was in a band called Approach, Ozzy who wanted to be just like The Beatles, said he was a singer and joined the band, and somehow got his dad to buy him a $50 mic, and amp. The band wasn't really his taste in music so quit and met up with friend Terrence Butler (now Geezer) and formed a band called Rare Breed, that didn't work out either, so Ozzy put an add in the local paper which said :

 

OZZY ZIG -VOCALIST- REQUIRES BAND-OWNS PA-NEEDS A GIG

 

Tony Iommi and friend Bill Ward, saw the add, and Tony thought this couldn't be the Ozzy I picked on in school, and called him up. And Sure enough it was.

Ozzy, Tony, Geezer, and Bill, formed a band called PulkaTulk, with Ozzy named after a conatiner of Talcum Powder that he found in the bathroom. Then they changed their name from PulkaTulk to Earth. In fact at one particular gig, they had to play at a ball, and where tuxes, because the people mistook the band for a jazz band called Earth. They weren't very pleased with the Heavy sound Ozzy and the guys gave him. So the band was forced to change there name, they called themselves Black Sabbath after a horror flick.

 

Now playing many gigs at different clubs Black Sabbath found it hard gaining the audiences attention, so at one gig Ozzy painted himself Purple to get the crowds attention. It didn't work. So they decided to crank the volume up so loud the audiences couldn't hear themselves think!

 

On Friday February 13, Black Sabbaths first album Black Sabbath was released. It took only 4 hours, and $ 1 200 to make. Ozzy couldn't wait to bring the record home to his dad. When his Dad listened to it he was shocked, and said "are you sure your only smoking cigarttes?" With the first album Black Sabbaths popuarity was growing fast. In 1976 Ozzy Married girlfriend Thelma Mayfair, who had already had a son Elliot. While they were married Ozzy, and Thelma had 2 children together Jessica Starshine Osbourne born in 1975 ( before they were married) and Louis Osbourne born in 1976. Their marriage ended in divorce in 1979, do to a drug addled Ozzy. Also in 1979 Black Sabbath gave Ozzy the boot, due to his lack of commmitment to the band.

 

Ozzy packed his bags, and moved into a Los Angelous hotel room. But was soon rescued by Don Arden the man who was going to sign Black Sabbath to a label earlier, and his daughter Sharon Arden. The two argued over Ozzy, Sharon bought her father out, creating a bitter argument between them. Ozzy released his debut solo album in 1980 titled "The Blizzard odf Oz" containing hit songs like "Crazy Train" And "MamaI'm Coming Home". In 1981 the alleged dove biting incident happened. Ozzy and Sharon went into a meeting with record executives, and Ozzy was supposed to throw the doves in the air as a sign of peace, instead the half drunk Ozzy, bit the head off of the bat, with a zany crosse eyed look on his face. The bat biting incient happened while Ozzy was ontour, he was playing a gig, and at this time Ozzy would throw raw meat at the crowd, and the crowd would throw different objects at him, while someone in the crowd threw an unconcious bat at the stage. Ozzy who thought it was plastic, bit the head off of it, he quickly realized his mistake, and immeaditiatly went in for rabies shots.

In 1982 Sharon Arden, and Ozzy Osbourne married in Hawai, also in 1982, Ozzy Osbournes best friend and guitarist died in a plan accident. Ozzy's pilot who we all assume was drunk pulled a "buzz" into the tour bus, Ozzy's wardrobe stylist Racheal was also killed.

 

On September 2, 1983 Aimee Racheal Osbourne was born, and on October 27 1984 Kelly Lee Osbourne was born, followed by Jack Osbourne on November 8, 1985.

 

In 1989 Ozzy sunk to an all time low, he woke up one morning in a jail cell, unaware of how he had gotten there or what had happened the night before. He had tried to kill his wife after downing a gift of vodka. Ozzy had to stay in rehab for 3 monthes but luckily Sharon didn't press charges and forgave her husband.

 

Throughout the 90's Ozzy remained one of teh few 80's rockers to stay "cool" he remained busy, winning a grammy for the song "I don't want to change the world" and inventing the Annual Ozzfest tour ( which was more of Sharon's doing) he also did a reunion with Black Sabbath, and released a number of albums.
